With Vagaro's credit card reader (EMV Reader), you can easily accept Google Pay, Apple Pay, contactless, chip, and swipe payments. To start accepting payments, you must pair the reader with your phone, tablet, Pay Desk, or computer.
Vagaro's EMV reader is available for customers in the United States. For international customers, please see Using the WisePad 3 Mobile with Vagaro Pro or Using the WisePOS E with Vagaro.

Prerequisites: This feature requires Credit Card Processing.
Keep in mind that you may have one of two EMV Readers. Which reader you have changes how it pairs.

Not sure which reader you have? Here's how you check.

If you purchased your reader after March 2023, you have the upgraded EMV Reader+.

Go to your Purchased Product Report to check your order. Check if it's listed as “EMV Reader+” or "EMV Reader".

Check the back of your reader and look for a serial number:
-
If the serial number starts with "CHB2," then you have the legacy EMV Reader.

If the serial number starts with "CHB3," then you have the EMV Reader+
-

Check the charging port:
-
If the device takes Micro-USB, it's the legacy EMV Reader.
-
If the device takes USB-C, it's the EMV Reader+.

Important
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on for your device. You won't be able to pair if Bluetooth is turned off.
Do not pair your EMV reader through your Bluetooth settings.
To pair your device:
-
Press the power button on the side of your Credit Card Reader.

EMV Reader+: When powered on, the reader will flash blue and beep three times.

EMV Reader: When powered on, the reader will flash Blue, Green, and Red.

Open the Vagaro Pro app and log in, then select → .
-
If you haven't paired with a device before, make sure you agree to all permissions so your device can pair.

Under Credit Card Reader, select → → .
Your device will begin searching for nearby devices.

Once found, one of the following screens will appear depending on your device:
-
EMV Reader+: The Pair with Code screen will appear. Select Copy Code & Continue.

EMV Reader: The Vagaro Reader Found screen will appear. Select Pair to connect your device.

If you're pairing with an EMV Reader+, a Bluetooth pairing request popup will display. Paste or enter the code and pair.
The Successfully Paired screen will display. A solid blue light above the power button also indicates the reader is paired, as long as your phone or tablet is turned on and the Vagaro Pro app is open.
To charge a card:
-
Go to the Checkout
screen, or check out the customer directly from the Calendar.

Select a customer and add items to their shopping cart. For existing appointments or classes, the customer is already selected and ready for checkout.

Turn on the Credit Card Reader and make sure it's paired. You can check the pairing status by going to → .

Select Pay by Card.
-
Have your customer pay for their appointment with one of the following methods:
-
Tap: Have the customer hold their card or digital wallet (phone, smartwatch, etc.) over the Credit Card Reader to make a contactless payment. Have them hover it over the reader to hear a confirmation that the payment was accepted.

Dip: Have the customer insert their chip card into the reader with the chip facing in and leave it in place during the transaction. They should remove the card only after you see that the payment was accepted.

Swipe: Slide your card through the reader with the magnetic stripe facing towards the device. Move it smoothly from side to side. Wait for the confirmation on the screen or a sound indicating the payment was accepted.
The Credit Card Reader will make a sound when the card is read.

Depending on your Checkout Settings, the option to add a tip and sign for the transaction will appear on your computer. You'll need to show your device to the customer so they can choose a tip and sign.

Select Checkout Type: If you have Contactless Checkout configured, the customer can complete checkout on your device or finalize on their device.

Tip: If you ask for a tip at checkout, the customer can select a tip option or enter a custom tip amount on your computer. Select Next or Charge Card to continue. If the checkout is with multiple service providers, the customer will have the option to split the tip as well.

Sign: If you require a signature for card transactions, the customer will be prompted to sign on your computer. Select Next or Charge Card to continue.

The customer can then choose whether they want a receipt from your computer:
-
Print Receipt: If you have a Vagaro Receipt Printer, the customer will receive a physical receipt.

Email Receipt: The customer can enter their email to receive a digital receipt in their inbox.
-
Both: The customer will receive an email and physical receipt. This option will only display if you selected Ask at Checkout in Checkout Settings.

None: No receipt given.
Note
The receipt options given depend on what you've set in Checkout Settings.

After checking out a service, you will be prompted to rebook the service or return to the Calendar screen.
If you disconnected a device from your EMV reader, it needs to be re-paired to be able to process transactions again in Vagaro Pro. The EMV reader will automatically connect to the last mobile device it was paired with.
To reconnect your EMV reader:

Open the Vagaro Pro app and log in, then select → .

Turn on your reader.

If you last paired with the reader, your reader will display below Credit Card Reader. Select it to make sure it's Connected.

If it doesn't show as Connected, select → . To repair your device.

If you don't see the reader in the list, follow the pairing steps again.

The name of your reader will be shown on Connected Devices. You can change it so it's easily identifiable, especially if you have multiple devices connected to your business.
To change the name of your reader:
-
Open the Vagaro Pro app and log in, then select → .
-
Turn on your reader.
-
If you last paired with the reader, your reader will display below Credit Card Reader. Select it.

If it doesn't show as Connected, select → . To repair your device.
-
If you don't see the reader in the list, follow the pairing steps again.

Once connected, select Rename Credit Card Reader.
-
Enter a name for your reader, then select Save.
