Gift cards are a great way to help boost revenue at your business during the holidays. In Vagaro, you can sell physical and digital gift cards to your customers.
-
Physical gift cards can be scanned from the checkout screen to add value to those cards. You can use gift cards you've created or order custom gift cards from the Vagaro Online Store.
-
Digital gift cards are sold in-house, on your Vagaro Listing Page, MySite, and on Facebook; there is no need to create them in advance because Vagaro has a variety of templates to choose from. If you have your own designs, you can upload those as well. If you're having trouble, Studio 180, Vagaro's in-house design services team, can help resize and touch up digital gift card designs for you.
Each customer is restricted from purchasing more than $1,500 (or the equivalent in local currency) in gift cards per day. This limit includes individual gift certificates or packages for smaller amounts that add up to more than $1,500 or a single one for more than $1,500. Restrictions are set by FinCen and our banking partners.
If you are a customer of a business looking to purchase a gift card, please see these articles.
Prerequisites: Selling gift cards in-house is available to all businesses. Selling gift cards online requires Credit Card Processing and Online Shopping Cart.
-
Purchased gift cards are saved in the recipient's customer profile, so customers can always redeem them in person without a physical card. If a customer purchases a gift card for someone who is not in your system, you can provide a physical gift card or print a gift card receipt. Both options can be redeemed at your business even if the recipient does not have a profile yet.
-
If the receipt is lost, you can go to the Gift Card Report to view all gift cards sold and check their current balance. From this report, you can also void a gift card, resend a receipt, or change its balance. If you recently moved to Vagaro, you can transfer any existing gift cards to continue accepting them at your business.
-
In-person gift card sales are deposited to the business account owner or to any employee who has their own merchant account. Deposits are made the following business day after the gift card is purchased. Because Vagaro doesn’t treat gift card sales as service revenue, commission can’t be assigned to hourly or salaried employees for these transactions.
-
Gift cards purchased online will be deposited into the business owner's merchant account by default. If you want customers to choose which employees should receive credit for the sale, turn on Gift Card Sales Go Directly to Employees in your Online Shopping Cart settings.
-
Service-based gift cards are sold at the lowest price you offer for that service. Any tax that applies to the service is automatically included in the gift card’s total price.
Selling gift cards in-house does not have the same requirements as selling them online. Any business using Vagaro can do this. You can sell your own physical gift cards or create digital gift cards that you can email to your customers or print out for later use.

Is there a way to turn off the email function when selling a gift certificate at checkout? I know can set it to send at a later date, but some customers don't want an email copy set to the recipient.
Hi Jessi, on the web, you can toggle off Send Email To to prevent an email from being sent to the recipient.
Is there a way to select more than 1 service to add onto a gift card?
It is currently not possible to select more than one service. We encourage you to create a feature request at https://feedback.vagaro.com/forums/915991-feature-requests. You can also search for and upvote suggestions that other users have submitted.
We have our own physical gift cards that we have designed and sell through vagaro. The print section trips up our front desk staff. We see that we can toggle off the print option, but vagaro still makes us choose an image/template as if we were going to print even when toggled off. Please update this feature to create less confusion during the checkout process. Anything we can do to streamline the process would be amazing.
Hi Melissa,
Thanks for the feedback. I've submitted your comment over to the product team.
Thanks, Jamie
Is there any way to sell a gift card on a tablet but not have to select a customer if they currently do not have a profile in Vagaro? It seems that creating a new customer just takes extra time and we want our process to be as quick and streamlined as possible.
Hi Kelly, you don't need to select a customer when selling gift cards. It's completely optional.
Thanks, Jamie
Interesting. Our system keeps telling us to select a customer first. Is there a tutorial for this? Or maybe we have a setting option selected that we shouldn’t. Any help would be lovely.
Hi Kelly,
My mistake. I thought you were talking about a recipient. Currently, you don't need to select a recipient for a gift card. However, you still need to select a customer to purchase it. As a walk-around, I recommend creating a “Walk In” customer profile that you can use in these scenarios.
Thanks, Jamie
