Redeem Gift Cards at Checkout

When a client is checking out and has a gift card that has a higher value than their treatment(s), why doesn't the check-out procedure prompt for them to potentially add a gratuity and sign, like a credit card transaction does? I know I could add a gratuity before checking out and it would use part of the Gift card value, but that's an awkward conversation at checkout, vs a gratuity screen where the guest can make a decision.

Hi Jennifer, this is the current functionality for all other payment methods and not just gift cards. If you'd like this to change, I recommend submitting a feature request to our product team. Here's an article on how you can do this: https://support.vagaro.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021060374. However, since gift cards act like stored-value cash rather than a traditional credit or debit transaction, they typically don’t trigger a gratuity prompt or signature screen, which makes asking for a tip more delicate.

I understand how it can be awkward to ask for a tip. Here's an idea on how you can politely ask for a tip.

“Your gift card covers the full amount of today’s service. If you’d like to leave a tip for your provider, we can apply that using part of the remaining gift card balance.”

“It looks like your gift card more than covers your total — would you like to use part of it for a tip today?”

     Thanks, Jamie
