Once a patient is added to E-Prescribe, you can create and send prescriptions directly from Vagaro. The process starts by selecting the patient’s profile, choosing the medication, and confirming the prescription details before submitting it to the pharmacy.
Important
If a DEA number is entered for a provider and they intend to prescribe controlled substances, their EPCS Permissions must be approved by a Full Admin user other than the provider themselves. This process is a DEA requirement and must be followed. The person approving can be anyone, including a friend, spouse, family member, etc. You can create a medical assistant account for them, and then the user can be inactivated if they will not be using E-Prescribe.
Prerequisites: This feature requires E-Prescribe.
To prescribe a medication:
-
Go to Customers
and select a customer.
-
From the E-Prescribe tab, select Prescribe New Drug, select the Search for a Drug box, and then enter a drug name.
Tip
When searching, please only type the first word of the drug's name and do not include the strength. To search for Valium 2mg, only type VALIUM - you will be able to find the desired strength thereafter.
-
Select the drug to be prescribed.
-
After selecting the drug, select the Right-Arrow > button next to the medication strength to be prescribed to view a common list of formats.
If you don't see the strength you need, select Add Format.
-
In the list, select the format. Formats have pre-defined quantities and directions (SIG).
-
From the Prescription Preview screen, enter all the appropriate information for the prescription.
-
Current Insurance: The patient's insurance.
-
Quantity: How much medicine you're prescribing to the patient.
-
Directions: The instructions posted on the prescription.
-
Pharmacy Destination: The pharmacy this prescription will be sent to and any Notes to Pharmacist.
-
Allergies: Any allergies the customer has.
-
-
When you have completed all fields, select Send to Pharmacy or Queue to Provider for Approval if approval is required.
-
A preview of the prescription will appear. Select Approve and Send to finalize.
Your patient's prescription will display in their profile.
