Set Up and Prescribe a Compound Medication – Vagaro Support

E-Prescribe includes the ability to add compound medications to the drug database and then use those compound medications to prescribe them for any patient. Creating a compound is similar to adding a new medication. It's like creating a "template" for what you want, or in other words, a base version of the medication users can select and then modify as needed when prescribing the medication. Any user with permission can set up a compound medication.

Prerequisites: This feature requires E-Prescribe.

Create a Compound Medication

Go to Customers and select a customer.
Select the patient's profile and go to the E-Prescribe tab.
In Prescriptions, select Prescribe New Drug → Compound/Specialty → Setup Compound.

Note

If you do not see the setup button, you do not have permission to set up a compound medication. You can select an existing compound to prescribe for a patient, but you cannot create a new one.
Enter a Title and a Comment for the compound, then select Add Compound. (The Title will be the name of the compound when selecting it on‐screen; this name is only visible in Vagaro and does not send to the pharmacy. You will set the name of the drug that the pharmacist will see in the next steps. The Comment is also only visible in Vagaro and will indicate to users what the medication is used for.)
In your new compound, next to Compound, select Edit.
The Compound screen will appear, where you can enter Ingredients, Quantity, Directions, and the Pharmacy you would like to set for the compound medication, then select Update Compound.

The preferred name and the Ingredient 1 name can be the same. At least one ingredient must be added all compounds is enough, individual ingredients do not need to be added, but you can Repeat whatever the preferred name is in the ingredient 1 drug description. There is a Quantity for Ingredient 1 and a Final Quantity. Both of these will be the same when you have only 1 ingredient.

Prescribe a Compound Medication

Once you've created your compound medication, you can prescribe it to your customers.

To prescribe a compound medication.

Go to Customers and select a customer.
Select the patient's profile and go to the E-Prescribe tab.
Select Start Prescribing.
- If the patient is missing information from their profile, you will be prompted to enter additional details.
- If the patient's profile matches multiple patients in ScriptSure, you will be prompted to select the correct patients and link their Vagaro profile with ScriptSure.
In Prescriptions, select Prescribe New Drug → Compound/Specialty.
Select the compound you'd like to prescribe from the list.
In Compound Selection, next to the dosage of medication you want to order, select Next.

If you do not see any compound medications to select, you will either need to create a new compound medication or have an administrator do this for you.
In Create Compound, verify and/or modify the prescription. Make sure to enter any required information in blank fields.
Select Send to Pharmacy or Queue to Provider for Approval.
