Text marketing is a powerful tool to connect with your clients, but it's essential to ensure your messages are delivered successfully and help drive traffic to your business. This guide will help you craft effective campaigns that resonate with your audience and comply with carrier guidelines.
Please see here for more details on Twilio's messaging guidelines.
-
Insert a Marketing Link
Use the Insert Link
button when building your campaign to link directly to your services, classes, or booking page. This makes it simple for customers to book appointments.
-
Use Vagaro AI
Let Vagaro AI help you create engaging campaigns tailored to your customers.
-
Keep It Short and Sweet
Send clear, concise messages. Most customers will skim long texts.
-
Add Images/GIFs
Enhance your text campaigns with images or GIFs to capture attention and make your message stand out.
-
Target Active Customers
Filter your campaigns for clients who have visited your business recently. This helps avoid being blocked by customers who haven’t engaged in a while.
-
Filter Your Audience
Target specific customer groups rather than sending campaigns to your entire list. This allows for more personalized and relevant messaging.
-
Avoid "Spammy" Formatting and Phrases
Stay away from all caps, excessive punctuation, unconventional capitalization, and phrases that trigger spam filters, such as: "BOOK NOW!!!," "FRee SeRVice," "I <3 U," "100% FREE," "Extra Cash," or "No Credit Check" can cause your message to be flagged by spam filters. Keep your language professional and trustworthy.
-
Avoid Sending Too Many Messages
Space out your campaigns and avoid sending duplicates to prevent customers from blocking your number.
-
Avoid Restricted Content
Do not send campaigns containing restricted terms, including: Hemp, Ganja, Green Leaf, 420, CBD THC, CBD-infused, Delta-8, Delta-9, or any other slang related to cannabis. Even if CBD products are legal in your state, these messages will be denied.
-
Limit Emojis
Use no more than one or two emojis to add personality without triggering spam filters.
-
Don't Add Business Information
Avoid adding your address, phone number, or email to the text. Customers can find this on your website.
-
Avoid Mentioning Prices
Skip listing deals and service prices, as these can be flagged.
-
Be Professional
Use respectful language and avoid offensive or slang terms to protect your brand’s image.
Important
Any Text Campaigns that fail for any reason are not subject to refunds.

I’m new to text campaigns but after reading the restrictions, I’m wondering what I can do? Avoid spam words/phrases like “50% off”- isn’t that the point of a promotional text?
Don’t include business info? What happens if I’m posting a last minute availability & I want them to call or text me directly?
I wish there was more recourses that show examples of both creating the campaigns & on the finer details like filtering capabilities for targeted audiences. Maybe I’m missing something ☺️
Thanks for your help!
Hi, Lacey,
This article covers the best practices our teams have collected over the years that lead to campaign denials. These guidelines are to discourage spammy-looking messages that get blocked by carriers and are not hard-set rules. The mention of "100% off" or “free” in a text campaign could lead to it being flagged, but that also depends on the content of your campaign.
For example, “Come check out our 100% FREEE!!! services at our salon. Click here to see more: wwww.suspiciouslink.com!!!!!!!!” will obviously get flagged.
While something like, “This summer, we're offering $50 off all services when you book with us online. Book now at www.vagarolink.com.” has a minimal risk of being flagged.
Thanks,
Jamie
