It’s very disappointing that the feature of getting a card to secure an online appointment, which was previously including in what I was paying. Is now being taken away to be added into the shopping cart which is an extra charge. I’m ok with new feature being brought in to help improve the experience for others, but taking something away that wasnt previously not an extra charge and making it one isn’t fair to those who don’t have need for the online shopping cart.

I agree with Joy. It’s not right to charge extra for something that is already a feature and I e been paying for it since I added the online shopping cart feature . The deposit feature should be an option and charged if chosen for.
Not happy at all about that.

In the event of a no-show or cancellation credit card capture does not always protect businesses from financial loss. Service providers who charge a cancellation and no-show fee at that point may find that the card they are charging has no money on it.

To solve this problem a number of Vagaro businesses requested a Deposits feature that would allow them to take a percentage of the total service / class or the full amount when a customer books a class or appointment online. We responded by introducing deposits as part of the online booking features offered in the Shopping Cart and we committed to keeping the price of the Shopping Cart at $10/month.

Based on our research we are confident that a majority of users who were previously using the credit card on file function will now opt to use the deposit functionality instead as it guarantees their income and therefore better protects their financial health.

In 10 years of business, Vagaro has never raised the base subscription, which remains priced at $25 per month and service provider. Instead we have consistently built new features based on user demand. Businesses can add any or all features to their base subscription as they grow. Our core principle is and has always been: Every business should only pay for what it needs, no more, no less.

The deposit feature is great when clients are booking an appointment themselves, but what about when they are in the salon and a staff member such as the Vagaro admin, receptionist, or stylist is booking a future appointment that requires a deposit?

We offer a high-dollar hair extension service with pricing between $1,300 and $2,785. We have found the ideal process to book clients for this service is to first schedule a consultation with them to identify their need and if they are a good candidate. If they are, we then book their installation appointment for a future date and collect a 50% deposit at the time of booking to cover the cost of ordering the hair extensions specific to the clients needs from our supplier and pre-installation prep time and materials. The deposit is collected by the staff member at the time of booking, and the remaining amount is paid at the completion of service on the installation appointment day.

There doesn't seem to be away for a team member who is responsible for booking a client's future extension installation appointment to collect the 50% deposit that is required to cover pre-installation costs when booking the future appointment.

    Hi Sean,

We are working on an update to the Deposit feature that will allow you to accept a Deposit when booking an appointment at your business. This feature should be launching in the next month or 2, so keep an eye out for any emails from us announcing this feature!

I would love to see more customization for the deposits and credit card capture features. Some stylists do not do big projects and would like to stay away from deposits but others do. It would be nice if we could have more options so we can tailor this feature for more specific needs.

Hello! Has this feature been moved since the new update? Or are we unable to edit the deposits once a merchant service account is connect? I am on the page for "Online Shopping Cart" but only have the option to sell gift cards now. I remember adjusting these before but they are no longer there.

I was wondering when it would be available to take deposits in salon or manually?

Is there a way to cherry pick certain clients to require deposit and not others? Or is it for everyone?

I think there should be a feature to customize deposits for specific services. for some services the business may want to charge a deposit and for other services they may just want to hold a credit card, there should be an option to customize this feature for each service. also we should be able to take a deposit by invoice, as well as while manually booking an appointment or class for a customer. also please provide an option for a fixed deposit Dollar amount instead of a %.

    To Keri, Lauren, and Nay:

Keri: we will be rolling out In-House deposits in mid-late February.

Lauren: I'm sorry, but there is no way to pick specific clients for requiring deposits.

Nay: with that rollout, you will be able to select between $ and % for the deposit. I will ask whether invoicing deposits is part of this update and reply here. The other part of your request, requiring deposits per service, is not part of the changes.

    Hi again, Nay:

Got the answer and yes, you will be able to invoice for an in-house deposit with the coming update. Let us know if you have any more questions!

Is there a way to require both a deposit and a credit card capture? Specifically it would be nice to require a deposit from certain clients (ones who cancel/no show “x” amount of times) and still require a credit card on file.

Hi Kialy... There is no way right now to do exactly what you're asking for. There is a new cancellation fee feature coming (I THINK later this month, but it could be a bit longer) that would let you collect a cancel fee.

Have In-House deposits been rolled out yet? Is the new cancellation feature available

I would like in-house deposits that are based on services (not percentages) and the ability to charge a cancellation fee to an account with a Credit Card on file.

I can'd find info on this, still.

    Hi Andrea:

In-House deposits and No Show/Cancellation fees are due to roll out on May 13, 2021.

You'll be able to configure the fee as a $ amount or percentage, set a cut-off time after which the customer who doesn't show or cancels will be charged. You'll be able to charge the cancel or no-show fee from the calendar. The customer who tries to cancel late will get an acknowledgment that they will be charged the fee.

I don't think the deposit feature is based on services - just a configured $ / %. But I believe that the cancellation/no-show fee will be charged to the CC on file, automatically if the appointment was booked that way, and manually if you are doing it from the calendar for a specific appointment.

I haven't taken the deep dive for the support article(s) yet, so I'm not totally sure.
