Messages from Vagaro Connect and text campaigns use credits from your Text Messaging plan. The number of credits required for each message depends on the content you add and the length of your message. For example, short, plain text messages usually require only one credit, but longer messages, or those that include emojis, special characters, or images/GIFs, may use more credits than expected.
If you're running low on credits or planning a large text campaign, it’s a good idea to check how many credits your message will use before sending. You can see this number just below the Compose Text box when creating your campaign.
Text messages have a maximum limit of 1,600 characters, with each letter, number, space, or symbol counting as one character. Emojis count as two characters. Longer messages are divided into smaller parts called segments when sent to your customer, with each segment requiring one credit.
The type of content you add determines the character limits for each segment:
-
A standard segment is 160 characters or less. If your message is longer than 160 characters, it’s then split into 153-character chunks.
-
A 160-character message = 1 segment = 1 credit
-
A 161-character message = 2 segments = 2 credits
-
A 307-character message = 3 segments = 3 credits
-
-
Emojis, some special characters, and languages like Chinese or Japanese reduce the first segment to 70 characters and then to 67 characters per segment after reaching that limit. Just one emoji or special character can increase how many credits your message uses.
Tip
Sometimes, copying content from other websites can introduce unsupported characters that raise your message cost. To check how your message will be segmented, use this tool to see how many segments your message requires.
Adding an image or GIF changes the way your message is sent to customers. Instead of using segments, the message has a flat cost of three credits per message in the U.S. and Canada, or 15 credits in Australia. You can include up to 1,600 characters without needing to use any additional credits. Supported formats are PNG, JPEG, and GIF. This feature is not available in the United Kingdom.
Important
Your customers must have a mobile data plan to receive messages that include images or GIFs.
