Tap to Phone With an iPhone (United States)

Tap to Phone allows customers to pay by simply tapping their contactless-enabled credit card, debit card, or mobile device (such as a smartphone or smartwatch) on a compatible device—no credit card reader is needed. Tap to Phone supports all major credit and debit cards with the NFC 140697433-near-field-communication-nfc-icon-nfc-logo-vector-icon.jpg icon and digital wallets, like Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay, and you can start accepting credit cards as soon as you sign up for Vagaro Credit Card Processing by connecting your Apple ID to your merchant account, which only takes a few moments. You can add up to three devices with the same Apple ID.

Prerequisites: This feature requires Credit Card Processing, version 6.2.3 of the Vagaro Pro app, and a compatible iPhone (iPhone XS or later running iOS 16.7 or later).

Set Up Tap to Pay in Vagaro for the First Time

To set up Tap to Pay:

  1. Go to Checkout.

  2. In the bottom-left corner, select Connect. If you see Pay with Card, you'll need to turn off any credit card reader attached to your phone.

  3. In the popup, select Tap to Pay on iPhone.

  4. Select Get Started, then select Next.

  5. To set up Tap to Pay on your device, link your Apple ID with Vagaro.

    • Select Continue with This Apple ID to connect the Apple ID displayed on the screen.

    • Select Use a Different Apple ID to use another Apple ID.

    The Connect button will change to Tap to Pay once set up.

Charge a Customer with Tap to Pay

If you've already set up Tap to Pay on your device, you can process payments from the Checkout screen.

To charge a customer with Tap to Pay:

  1. Go to Checkout or check out an appointment from the Calendar.

  2. Ensure you have a customer selected and that their shopping cart is ready for checkout.

  3. In the bottom-left corner, select Tap to Pay to process payment.

    If Tap to Pay isn't displayed, then:

    • If you see Connect, select it, then select Tap to Pay on iPhone.

    • If you see Pay with Card, you must turn off any credit card readers attached to your phone.

  4. If applicable, have the customer enter their tip amount. The Tap to Pay screen displays.

  5. Show your phone to the customer and have them tap their device or card on the back of your device. When the process is complete, the Approved screen displays.

  6. Optionally, send the receipt to the customer.
